The parallel "dual-control for vibration and earthquake" system of SAFETYINSIDE has been successfully implemented in the Beijing Opera and Dance Theatre.

2024-11-28

On November 22, the installation of the parallel "dual-control for vibration and earthquake" system was successfully completed at the Beijing Opera and Dance Theatre project. This technology combines structural vibration isolation with vibration source suppression to achieve dual control over the impacts of earthquakes and subway vibrations on building safety and functionality, providing a stable and quiet space environment for future performances and rehearsals at the theatre. This marks the first application of this technology in China.

The Beijing Opera and Dance Theatre project is a key project in Beijing and one of the priority initiatives for the capital in promoting the construction of the national cultural center. With a construction area of approximately 25,000 square meters, it includes a medium-sized theater with 1,100 seats, a small theater with 410 seats, and five rehearsal halls. Upon completion, it will become a comprehensive professional theater for music and dance of advanced domestic standards, providing high-quality performance and rehearsal venues for domestic and international artistic groups. It holds great significance in enhancing the cultural carrying capacity of the region, increasing the supply of high-quality cultural offerings, and advancing the construction of the national cultural center.

The project is located in the core area of Chaoyang District, Beijing, at the southeast corner of Shuangjing Bridge, adjacent to the Guomao CBD and in close proximity to a dual-line subway station. The nearest distance to the subway tunnel of Line 10 is only 5.9 meters, and the closest distance to a subway entrance/exit is 2 meters. The vibrations and noise generated by subway operations will inevitably impact the theater building itself and its acoustical environment.

To address this, the project innovatively applied three core technologies during construction: isolation cushions, a parallel "dual-control for vibration and earthquake" system, and floating floors. These three vibration and noise reduction defenses collectively achieve multi-layer vibration isolation and path interruption for vibrations and noise, providing a high-quality acoustical environment inside the theater and further enhancing the auditory experience for audiences and performers. Notably, the parallel "dual-control for vibration and earthquake" system is the first such application in China and represents a leading level in domestic cultural buildings.

To ensure the smooth implementation of the "dual-control for vibration and earthquake" system in the Beijing Opera and Dance Theatre project, professional teams from various parties sought perfection and conducted repeated studies and assessments before installation. They conducted multiple vibration tests at various early stages, organized continuous revisions to the bearing and connection calculations, and used these to further refine the design of the vibration isolation bearings. These efforts were reviewed and approved by the original design unit, Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, laying a solid foundation for the safe, stable, and effective operation of the system in the theater after its completion.

The application of the "dual-control for vibration and earthquake" system not only ensures the functional use of the theater but also sets a new standard for the industry. In the future, the project team will continue to tackle difficulties and take the lead with the "dual-control for vibration and earthquake" as its core technology. Focusing on the complex cantilevered and suspended steel structure systems of the Beijing Opera and Dance Theatre's superstructure, the team will actively engage in technological innovation, leveraging advanced technology and technological innovations to support the construction of high-quality projects. They strive to contribute to creating the cultural brand of "Great Shows in Beijing" and to the construction of Beijing as the national cultural center.
